DO not panic-buy as there is enough food supply in the country, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

The defence minister said a survey from the country’s food supply committee found that all major hypermarkets and supermarkets have enough stock.

“The government, through its food supply committee, has inspected 27 outlets and we found supplies are enough and the public need not to worry.

“Do not panic-buy,” he said in his daily press conference today.

Ismail also assured that rice, a top staple in the country, is adequate.

“Rice is sufficient and when I say rice, I mean to say the product is enough but may some brands may have run out of stock.

“There are many brands. Some brands may run out of stock but the product (rice) is there. It is enough,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail urged those who wish to donate directly to the government to provide a manifest of their contributions.

“This is to ensure that the distribution of supplies can be done more effectively and to prevent overlaps,” he said.

Ismail said the act of listing all items donated would help the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) coordinate the distribution.

“Nadma received many contributions from the public and companies especially in terms of equipment – for instance, face masks. We appreciate the donations very much.

“Nadma will distribute for free to frontliners such as the army, police, Rela, the hospitals and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force,” he added. – March 29, 2020.
