MORE than 3,000 Malaysians are still stranded in 60 countries, while 2,162 have been brought home, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“Tomorrow we will bring back Malaysians from Cairo, and 1,988 Malaysians from India will fly home soon as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail said MIC has chartered 12 commercial flights for the purpose of bringing back Malaysians from India.

“We would like to thank MIC for the flights. All of them will return as soon as possible,” he added.

The defence minister advised Malaysians, including students who are still stuck abroad, to contact the nearest Malaysian consulate.

In recent weeks, Malaysians stranded in India have taken to social media to plead with the government to bring them back.

They had been left out in MIC’s earlier “rescue plan” to bring back 1,106 Malaysians from India and 270 Malaysians from Bangladesh.

For that, MIC chartered six AirAsia flights for RM1 million. – March 28, 2020.
