US Senate passes mammoth rescue package

THE Senate unanimously passed the US’ largest-ever rescue package late yesterday, a US$2 trillion (RM8.8 trillion) lifeline to suffering Americans, critically depleted hospitals and an economy ravaged by a rapidly spreading Covid-19 crisis.

The measure cleared the Senate 96 to zero after days of tumultuous, sometimes bitter, negotiations and debate, as the US death toll in the pandemic soars past 1,000, with 68,000 confirmed infections.
