MORE than three billion people around the world were living under lockdown yesterday, with governments stepping up efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic that has left more than 20,000 dead.

As the number of confirmed cases worldwide soars past 450,000, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that only a concerted global effort can stop the spread of the coronavirus.
