MCO extended until April 14

THE movement control order will be extended until April 14, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, in efforts to stem the continued rise of coronavirus cases.

The Health Ministry is registering new infections daily despite the shutdown that is in place, he said in a special announcement.

“This trend is expected to continue for some time before new cases decline. This forces the government to continue the movement control order for a longer period,” Muhyiddin said.

“So the government will extend the MCO until April 14. I am telling you this early so that you can prepare,” he said.

“Just be mentally and physically prepared to stay at home for a reasonably longer period of time.”

The MCO was started on March 18 to break the chain of coronavirus infections in the country by minimising face-face contact.

The country is one of several now, including many parts of Europe and Asia that have gone into lockdowns to fight Covid-19.

Most private and public sector services that are deemed non-essential have been told to shutter operations while the MCO is in effect.

Schools, universities and childcare centres have also remained closed.

Essential services such as water, electricity, security, food and waste management have been allowed to go on as usual.

Travel for Malaysians have been restricted to buying groceries and daily essentials and medical emergencies.

“Those of you in the kampung do not need to rush back to Kuala Lumpur this weekend. Stay in the kampung and don’t go anywhere,” Muhyiddin said.

“Kids who go to residential schools do not need to go back to their schools yet. Wait first.

“Offices which are closed do not need to re-open. If there are important things to be done in the next two to three weeks, plan now how to sort them out.

“Please stay calm and don’t panic. Even though we have extended the movement control order, you don’t have to unnecessarily stock up on food because the supply is sufficient. I assure you that food is enough for everybody.

“I know you feel burdened but I don’t have a choice. I have to extend the movement control order for your own safety.” – March 25, 2020.

  • Prepare for what Mr Backdoor PM?
Said to decide next week and then quickly announce today, and announcing a very high daily infected rate even before the end of the day, he is essentially setting people up for more panic and panic buying.
This is the short end of the stick that people are getting with this poorly performing backdoor govt.
