DRIVER’S licences that are due to expire do not need to be renewed during the movement control order period, Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said.

Drivers only need to have an active insurance cover note for their vehicle for the period, he said in a statement tonight, superseding an earlier statement that licences should still be renewed and the proof of online payment used in lieu of a physical licence.

“If a driver’s licence has expired, the vehicle can still be used on condition the driver has an active insurance cover note.

“Once the movement control order is over, the licence must be renewed within 30 days,” Wee said.

The exemption from renewing driver’s licences during the movement control order period is for drivers of commercial, vocational and private vehicles.

Earlier today, Wee said both road tax and driver’s licences should be renewed online though the MySikap JPJ or MyEG portals, with the proof of payment used in lieu of the physical licence or road tax.

His statement tonight did not refer to any exemptions for road tax renewals. – March 24, 2020.
