FOUR areas in Kuala Lumpur have been classified coronavirus “red zones” by Putrajaya due to their high number of Covid-19 cases.

These are the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency, Titiwangsa, Kepong and Cheras, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.

These areas will see intensified operations by police and army personnel, as well as local authorities, to ensure residents comply strictly with the government’s movement control order (MCO).

Annuar said 1,413 army, 1,500 police and 1,500 City Hall personnel are being deployed throughout the Federal Territory to enforce the MCO.

“The additional manpower from the armed forces will allow us to increase the number of roadblocks around the city from 40 to 58,” Annuar said in a statement streamed on Facebook today.

Security personnel will also patrol Brickfields, Chow Kit and Selayang, due to reports that residents and businesses there were not practising social distancing.

Lembah Pantai has emerged as the district with the second-highest number of Covid-19 infections at 90, behind Petaling Jaya with 96 cases.
