THE Ministry of Health has said 190 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed, the largest single-day increase in number of confirmed cases.
Health Minister Adham Baba said the majority of the cases were from the tabligh gathering at Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur on February 28.
“With these 190 new cases, the number of Covid 19 cases in the country now stands at 428,” Adham said in a statement today.
He said nine patients were in intensive care and on respirators to assist their breathing, while seven patients had been treated and discharged from Sungai Buloh Hospital meaning 42 people have been successfully treated and discharged.
The Health Minister reiterated the call for people who attended the tabligh to go to their nearest clinic to be screened for Covid-19.
Yesterday, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sabah had recorded the highest number of positive Covid-19 cases from the tabligh, with 26 people contracting the virus.
The total number of infected tabligh participants is now 77 with 37 new cases.
Dr Noor Hisham said Negri Sembilan is the second highest with 11.
Sarawak has six, Penang, Johor, Malacca and Selangor have five cases, Kelantan three, Pahang, Perak, Labuan, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur have two cases each, while Perlis has one.
The gathering was attended by an estimated 16,000 people.
Singapore has reported new cases from citizens who participated in the event, as has Brunei with 38 cases.
Of the 16,000 attendees, 14,500 were Malaysians and the rest were from around the Southeast Asia region. – March 15, 2020.
