THE Conference of Rulers is expected to convene a special meeting at Istana Negara, before Friday prayers, to resolve the political turmoil plaguing the country since Sunday.
The results of the meeting could lead to either a new government or dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat.
The outcome of the rulers’ meeting is certainly awaited by Malaysians seeking an end to the political saga.
Interim prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday confirmed that a special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat will be held on Monday to determine the candidate who commands majority support to be the next prime minister.
Dr Mahathir said yesterday the Yang di-Pertuan Agong could not find an MP who commands a majority and because of this, Parliament should determine the next government.
If the special sitting fails to reach agreement, snap elections would be held.
Meanwhile, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said all processes related to election of the new prime minister in the Dewan Rakyat will be determined after official notification from the interim prime minister on the special sitting.
Political parties are today expected to convene respective special meetings to discuss their next course of action. – Bernama, February 28, 2020.
