PAKATAN Harapan will keep its options open on Bersatu returning to the fold as changes are happening by the day, said Anwar Ibrahim.
The PKR president said the issue of approaching Dr Mahathir Mohamad was not discussed at Pakatan’s leaders’ meeting at Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya this afternoon.
“No, it was not discussed in the meeting but anything can happen as things are changing every day,” Anwar told reporters when asked whether the Pakatan leaders had discussed Bersatu, which left the coalition on Monday.
“For now, we are Pakatan and they have left Pakatan.”
Dr Mahathir had shocked the nation and his allies by resigning as prime minister on Monday.
This was followed by an announcement from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin that the party was pulling out of PH, resulting in the collapse of the ruling pact.
Dr Mahathir then threw a second surprise by resigning as Bersatu chairman, indicating that not all was well in the party.
PH leaders yesterday revealed that they had approached Dr Mahathir to return to the pact and become prime minister again, but that he had refused the offer.
PH then named Anwar its prime ministerial candidate in the hopes of forming a minority government.
Dr Mahathir, meanwhile, asked the nation in a live telecast address yesterday to be allowed to form a non-partisan government.
He today returned to Bersatu as chairman, prompting talk he is trying to shore up support for his return to office. – February 27, 2020.
