THERE is no longer a cabinet following Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation as prime minister, said the chief secretary to the government.
Mohd Zuki Ali, in a statement tonight, said the appointment of ministers has been revoked based on Dr Mahathir’s advice to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“In line with this, the services of administrative staff, including the deputy prime minister, ministers, deputy ministers and political secretaries, have come to an end on the same date.”
Earlier today, the king accepted Dr Mahathir’s resignation, but appointed him interim prime minister pending the appointment of his successor and a new cabinet.
With this development, the interim prime minister, with the help of the civil service, will run the country’s administration until a prime minister is appointed.
The new prime minister will appoint his or her own cabinet members. – February 24, 2020.
