IGP assures stability amid political uncertainty

INSPECTOR-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador today said he will ensure law and order in the country, as instructed by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

“The King has ordered the police to make sure the country is safe. I urge the public to stop making any wild speculations.”

“I hope everyone can remain patient and keep to their daily routines. Police will monitor the situation closely and the democratic process will go on smoothly,” he said after meeting the King this evening.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad today resigned as prime minister following political uncertainties for the past couple of days. He has also resigned as Bersatu chairman.

Earlier, Anwar Ibrahim, together with Lim Guan Eng and Mohamad Sabu had met with the 94-year-old leader and had pleaded with the Langkawi MP to stay on as prime minister.

Dr Mahathir met the King this afternoon.
