AMANAH’S Salahuddin Ayub is no longer agriculture and agro-based industry minister following Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation, and has apologised to the country’s farmers and fishermen.

His announcement follows a tumultuous day in Malaysian politics, capped by Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation as prime minister, his party Bersatu’s withdrawal from Pakatan Harapan, and the loss of 11 PKR MPs.

These developments mean the PH government has collapsed, having only 102 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, 10 short of the simple majority of 112 needed to form government.

“To all farmers, breeders, and fishermen whom I love so much, I apologise as I have tried my best for one year and eight months to fight for all of you.

“My time at the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry has come to an end and I pray that you will be achieve greater heights under the ministry’s new leadership that is to come.

“I will continue to fight for your interests even though I am no longer with the government,” Salahuddin said in a press statement.

Salahuddin is also Amanah deputy president.

His statement on his resignation as minister comes as party president Mohamad Sabu said the PAS splinter party was giving its full support to Dr Mahathir as prime minister. – February 24, 2020.
