Alarm bells as number of science pupils skydive

Malaysian pupils are shunning science and maths because they’re considered ‘hard’, meaning that the country won’t be able to meet its target of producing enough scientists, researchers and technicians. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Najjua Zulkefli, February 17, 2020.

THIS year, Malaysia is supposed to have a million scientists, researchers and technicians, according to the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM).

But the reality is that the target won’t be met because, since 2012, the number of pupils taking up science subjects has declined by about 6,000 per year.
