A CANADIAN tourist who arrived at Mulu airport two days ago is among seven new suspected cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus in Sarawak, said the state Disaster Management Committee.

It said the man, who complained of a fever before his arrival, had been in Taipei, Singapore, Bali, Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu.

“He was referred to Miri Hospital after undergoing screening by the state Health Department. He is now under quarantine,” a committee spokesman told Bernama tonight.

In a statement issued earlier, the committee said besides the Canadian, there are six new patients under investigation (PUIs).

Three are under observation at Sarawak General Hospital, Bintulu Hospital (2) and Sibu Hospital (1).

“The cumulative number of PUI cases in the state from January 10 to today stands at 67.

“They comprise 49 Malaysians, 15 Chinese nationals, and one each from Thailand, Indonesia and Canada. Of the total PUIs, 51 tested negative for the coronavirus, and 16 are still waiting for their test results.” – Bernama, February 11, 2020.
