Hadi sues Sarawak Report

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has sued Sarawak Report for defamation.

The suit was filed at the London High Court on April 21, said PAS general-secretary Takiyuddin Hassan.

“The writ has already been served on Claire Rewcastle Brown,” he said during a press conference in Alor Star today.

Takiyuddin said they were suing for an appropriate sum for damages and an injunction to stop Sarawak Report from posting more on the subject.

PAS today launched a RM5 in-house fund drive to raise money to finance the defamation suit against the news portal.

PAS is collecting from its members as it does not have sufficient to sue Sarawak Report, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man during his opening speech at the launch of the PAS Youth meeting in Alor Star today.

“PAS has no money but PAS members are willing to sacrifice to defend the dignity of the party.

“By collecting RM5 from each person, we will have enough to pay the costs,” said Tuan Ibrahim.

Sarawak Report alleged that the top leadership of PAS accepted RM90 million from Prime Minister Najib Razak last year in an August 6, 2016 report entitled “As Najib denies all over 1MDB let’s not forget his many other criminal connections”.

It was claimed that the money was given in exchange for PAS support for Umno and the Barisan Nasional coalition. – April 27, 2017.
