THE Kuala Lumpur High Court today dismissed the government’s forfeiture suit to seize Umno funds allegedly belonging to 1Malaysia Development Bhd, Malaysiakini reports.

Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan today dismissed the bid to forfeit  RM212.97 million from Umno in an open-court proceedings.

Zaini ruled that the balance in Umno’s bank account as of May 2019 was not linked to money allegedly deposited by Najib Razak, when he was party president.

“There is nothing left of the money deposited by DSNR (Najib) in the account,” he said.

The money had long been used up in the 2018 general election, among others, Umno said in its submission.

Zaini also rejected Putrajaya’s bid to forfeit funds allegedly linked to 1MDB from Wanita MCA, Perano Sdn Bhd, and Binsabi Sdn Bhd.

The suits sought to respectively seize RM300,000, RM337,634.78, and RM827,250 from Wanita MCA, Perano and Binsabi.

The four entities are among 41 organisations and individuals from which the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission hope to recoup a total of RM270million purportedly linked to 1MDB. – February 7, 2020.
