LEMBAGA Tabung Haji (TH) will send out 31,600 haj offer letters starting Tuesday.
Haj senior general manager Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman said TH began keying in the names of the selected pilgrims into its system at midnight yesterday.
“Once the letter is issued, the recipient has 30 days to reply whether they are taking up the offer. After the deadline… we will know the number of vacancies available,” he told Bernama Radio’s Malam Ini talk show and Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme last night.
He said the available spots will be filled by TH depositors who have registered and appealed to perform the haj, with the selection to be made based on set criteria.
“For example, if a woman is selected, but her husband isn’t, he can appeal to perform the haj with his wife. This situation will be given priority. Ageing pilgrims, too, can submit an appeal.
“Priority will also be given to those seeking to perform the pilgrimage for the first time.”
Starting this year, he said, TH will have the appeal form on its website, as well as at its offices.
He said the pilgrims’ fund has received 100,000 appeals since the end of last year’s haj season.
The haj quota for Malaysian pilgrims has been increased to 31,600 this year from 2019’s 30,200. – Bernama, January 25, 2020.
