BARISAN Nasional (BN) has taken back the Kimanis parliamentary seat with the defeat of Pakatan Harapan today.

Its candidate Mohamad Alamin won by 2,029 votes, polling 12,706 votes to his opponent from Warisan, Karim Bujang’s 10,677.

Rejected votes numbered 320. Voter turnout was 79.92%

Returning officer Jupari@Jupry Eto announced the results at 9.30pm at the counting centre in Dewan Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Dun Banir.

The by-election was called after the Election Court last year nullified Kimanis MP Anifah Aman’s win in the 2018 general election.

Anifah, who won the seat on a BN ticket, quit Umno in September 2018 to go independent. He had held the seat for 20 years after winning it for the first time in 1999.

In the last election, Anifah polled 11,942 votes to win by 156 votes over Karim’s 11,786. The third candidate, Jaafar Ismail of Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, received 1,300 votes.

Mohamad, 48, is the Kimanis Umno chief. Former five-term Bongawan assemblyman, Karim, 67, is the Kimanis Warisan chief.

Warisan, which helms the Sabah government, is allied with Pakatan Harapan. – January 18, 2020.

  • PH, Warisan better start packing your bags.. the problem is you dont listen to ppls sentiments and do things as you please.. thats why you lost Kimanis with a bigger margin.
Shafie please go on and issue the 600k temporary passes to illegal immigrants, proceed with the Papar Dam, Tanjung Eco-development project, block the SFI sale, etc. Do all the things ppl are against about!
You dont even have a strategic investment blueprint for Sabah and blindly invite China to invest. You think they will save you??
Believe me at the rate you are going against peoples sentiments, peoples aspiration, etc, youll be out at the next GE. Might as well make peace with the BN, PBRS, parties..
If you really think you can contribute to Sabahs growth first and foremost drop theses useless Minister-passengers from your cabinet.. Christina Liew, Peter Anthony, Junz Wong, Ketepi, and replace them with capable ppl.
