Labuan customs seize RM600,000 in alcohol

LABUAN Customs Department foiled an attempt to smuggle various type of alcoholic beverages, with estimated pre-tax value of RM616,000, at the Labuan Liberty Wharf today.

According to a Customs spokesman, the items seized from seven containers were declared as oil production equipment instead of alcoholic beverages.

The spokesman said the total seizure has not been finalised but the estimation was based on the capacity of each 20-foot container, adding that the goods have been removed from the Labuan Liberty Wharf yard.

“The beverages, believed to have been imported from Singapore, have been sent to our enforcement unit in Kiamsam today,” the spokesman said when contacted.

He said the agency was in the middle of hunting down those responsible, while the contraband goods were believed to be for local distribution. – Bernama, January 2, 2020.
