Prince Charles, Camilla arrive in Malaysia tomorrow

PRINCE Charles and his wife Camilla will arrive in Malaysia tomorrow for the royal couple’s first official visit to the country to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Malaysia-United Kingdom bilateral relations.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement today said the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will visit a number of places and participate in various events during their visit until November 8.

Previous visits by members of the British royal family include Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh who attended the official opening of the 16th Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

Prince William and Catharine, Duchess of Cambridge visited in September 2012.

Prince Charles and Camilla are also expected to have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Negara and meet with Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

Bilateral relations between the two countries encompass a wide range including trade, defence and security, education, digital economy, green technology, renewable energy, culture and tourism.

Malaysia is the UK’s second largest export market in Southeast Asia and the UK is Malaysia’s third largest trading partner in Europe. There are more than 18,000 Malaysians studying in the UK. – Bernama, November 1, 2017.
