Are Spurs the new fan favourites?

SUNDAY was a water shed moment for most Spurs fans as they finally watched their team demolish a direct rival for the first time. Of course they were helped by a very generous Liverpool defense and some really bizarre tactical decisions from Jurgen Klopp.

A lot of people have been talking about how Dejan Lovren single-handedly handed the initiative to Spurs and how the Liverpool defense after that went out of their way to frustrate their fans. Every single Spurs goal was due to a defensive mistake but let that not distract from an excellent game plan by Pocchetino.

The Spurs players also for the first time at home didn’t press high and allowed the Liverpool players possession and patiently waited to hit them on the counter. Now to try and play Spurs at their game was always going to be risky when it should have been the Liverpool players who “parked the bus” and waited to hit Spurs on the counter.

I mean, this was a Spurs team that was still physiologically fragile at Wembley and to frustrate them for long periods of time would have been the ideal thing to do. As they got more open in their search of the goal is when the pace of Salah would have been handy to literally prise them open. They were playing with wing backs which always in the later stages of the game will require discipline and this would have been an area to exploit.

Now let’s talk about Spurs and how they are still the most exciting team to watch in the Premiership. They were a joy to watch as they stuck to their game plan and systemically decimated Liverpool. This weekend is a trip to Old Trafford and with Pocchetino’s stock on the rise, this will be an interesting match-up. I personally think Mourinho will be more pragmatic then Klopp, which will probably end in another drab 0-0 or he will sit deep and try hit Spurs on the counter and steal a 1-0.

Spurs are notoriously bad at Old Trafford and I think this will be weighing heavily on Pocchetino’s mind.

Ronald Koeman this week finally got the axe and it was some time coming, especially after that kind of summer spend. Everton will hope to get the likes of Ancelloti, which I think will be a good fit albeit a short term one. Claude Puel is another appointment that was not on the radar and I’m thinking why? Leicester have lost much of the goodwill they generated when they won the league with their sacking of Ranieiri and now with Shakespeare also gone most neutrals think it’s some form of payback.

Puel will probably steady the ship and get them back to where they belong which is just above relegation or mid table mediocrity. Leicester owners and  fans deserve everything they get from now on  – October 28, 2017..
