Govt urged to raise price of smokes to RM50

A YOUTH group is urging the government to increase the price of cigarettes to RM50 a pack to discourage youth and teens from picking up the habit, and as a way to curb social problems, like drug use, Utusan Online reported yesterday.

Malaysian Youth Council secretary-general Ahmad Saparudin Yusuf said the price increase should be part of the Budget 2018, and will make cigarettes a luxury item that was unaffordable to teens and youth.
