CONTROVERSIAL preacher Dr Zakir Naik wants Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy to apologise within 48 hours for defaming him in a news report yesterday.

Zakir also wants the DAP rep to pay damages for his supposed embarrassment and humiliation as a result of the alleged defamation, stated in a notice of demand issued to Satees today.

“He is to admit liability and retract all allegations made against our client,” said the notice as reported by Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

The notice also wants Satees, who is DAP Youth international secretary, to remove and refrain from publishing any defamatory allegations on all social media and other mediums.

Satees’ received the notice following remarks published on the FMT portal in the article: DAP man blames LTTE crackdown on Zakir Naik’s presence.

LTTE refers to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam, more commonly known as the Tamil Tigers.

Zakir’s lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader was also reported as saying that the FMT report suggested the India-born preacher had persuaded Malaysian authorities through back door dealings to take severe action against supporters of the Tamil Tigers in order to divert attention from himself.

“The report imputed that our client is the architect and master mind in the arrest of LTTE supporters,” he was quoted as saying.

The notice said the report had tarnished Zakir’s image, caused embarrassment and ridiculed him by creating racial tension among Malaysians, which endangered his own security.

Akberdin also said he would file a defamation suit against Satees if the DAP rep did not comply with his demands. – November 6, 2019.
