THE Barisan Nasional candidate, Wee Jeck Seng, said police reports lodged against him are politically motivated to coincide with the Tg Piai by-election.

The reports are in relation to a RM149.45 million project to install and run a vehicle entry permit (VEP) system between Malaysia and Singapore.

Wee was allegedly involved in the VEP when he was the Tg Piai MP prior to the 14th general election.

He said many of the allegations spread against him are also incorrect and already answered in the 2017 auditor-general’s report.

“Please bear in mind that these allegations made against me on this VEP project are not new and the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee has already held three hearings since March of this year.

“For example, the claim that the winning company only had RM35 in the bank account is wrong as the AG report said the company had proven it had more than RM3 million of funding, which surpasses the minimum required amount.

“The claims that the operating expenses have been hugely inflated are also wrong as this was due to a significant increase in scope, including a more than doubling of capacity in several requirements,” Wee said in a statement.

These were all in the audit report, adding that he is now no longer a shareholder of the company.

“I have never been involved in any abuse of power or the misappropriation of public funds and I am confident that the PAC and the police will eventually clear my name,” he said

The former deputy minister said the police reports against him were also similar to what took place in the Rantau by-election where police reports were made against the winning BN candidate Mohamad Hasan alleging corruption on a purchase of an overseas apartment. – November 6, 2019.
