Husam says no discrimination against Kelantan on oil royalty

Kelantan Pakatan chairman Husam Musa says technical problems may be the reason why the federal government has yet to pay the state's oil royalty. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, October 12, 2019.

THE federal government does not discriminate against Kelantan when it comes to oil royalty payments, said the state Pakatan Harapan chairman.

Husam Musa said the state government should look into the reason why Putrajaya has yet to pay its oil royalty, when full payment has been made to Terengganu.

“There may be certain technical problems if Kelantan’s petroleum royalty has not been paid. It needs to be studied. The Kelantan government must self-reflect… as payment has been fully made to Terengganu.

“The payment would not have been made to Terengganu if the federal government practised discrimination, because the amount is bigger,” he told reporters in Bachok today.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man was reported as saying Putrajaya no longer had an excuse for not paying Kelantan as the state had fulfilled the federal government’s requests, including withdrawing a court case.

He had said he hoped the state would get its oil royalty payment under Budget 2020.

However, there was no mention of the matter when the budget was tabled yesterday.

Husam said Kelantan has adequate funds, with most of the state’s allocation already given by the federal government.

He added that the state has been requested to provide details on the status of its “carbon credit project”, involving one million hectares of forest.

“The people of Kelantan want to know how much payment was received from the one million hectares for the project.” – Bernama, October 12, 2019.
