SOUTH Korea is bracing for Typhoon Lingling, which is expected to make landfall today, and has caused heavy rains and winds strong enough to uproot trees, reported the Yonhap news agency.

Warnings have been issued nationwide as the year’s 13th typhoon approaches the Korean peninsula at a maximum speed of 140kph, said the South Korean Meteorological Association.

The storm’s central pressure was recorded at 950 hectopascals, and it is expected to make landfall about noon.

Lingling, possibly the worst typhoon to hit the peninsula in decades, is expected to move up towards North Korea later in the day.

“Record-breaking winds will be seen at islands, and southern and western coastal areas,” said the weather agency. – Bernama, September 7, 2019.
