Cops remand man who threatened to kill Syahredzan

POLICE have arrested and remanded for four days a man who issued a death threat against lawyer Syahredzan Johan on Facebook.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Roslan Bek Ahmad confirmed the arrest of the suspect who works as a storekeeper and security guard.

He was arrested at an apartment in Bandar Sri Damansara at 2am this morning.

“He has been remanded until Tuesday (August 20).

“We are investigating the matter under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation,” the top cop was reported as saying in The Star Online.

Syahredzan, meanwhile, tweeted his appreciation over the quick action by police.

“I was informed that the suspect who threatened me has been arrested and remanded. Thank you, police, for their fast and professional action,” he tweeted.

On Wednesday, Syahredzan received a death threat on social media after he suggested controversial preacher Zakir Naik’s permanent resident status be rescinded.

He tweeted on the same night that the death threat was posted on Facebook.

Syahredzan, who is political secretary to Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang, also shared screenshots of the death threat and lodged a police report on Thursday. – August 17, 2019.
