Sarawak wants Brunei, Indonesia traffic offenders to settle fines

SARAWAK police will come up with a mechanism to tackle the issue of unpaid traffic fines involving foreigners.

State traffic investigation and enforcement chief Alexson Naga Chabu said Bruneian and Indonesian drivers accounted for 85% of the 51,101 outstanding summonses recorded since 2008.

“Until July 2019, 28,922 summonses have been settled,” he told Bernama.

He said the top two traffic offences committed by foreigners are driving above the speed limit and parking at unauthorised places.

“Police will continue with a special operation at the state’s borders to ensure foreigners settle their traffic summonses.”

He added that police will discuss the aforementioned mechanism with Brunei and Indonesia. – Bernama, July 28, 2019.
