BERSATU Youth (Armada) chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, who has alleged that he was offered money by an aide of the prime minister to leave Pakatan Harapan, is again urged to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who is PH deputy president, today said Syed Saddiq should file the report, as required by law.

“I am not surprised (that Syed Saddiq was allegedly offered a bribe). He should report this to MACC.

“It is required by the MACC Act to report cases of bribery to the authorities,” he told reporters in Komtar when asked to comment.

Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, said everyone was interested to know the identity of the aide who made the offer to Syed Saddiq.

“Why did the media not print out the name of the aide?”

Yesterday, Syed Saddiq, 25, revealed in a press conference that he was offered RM5 million by a senior adviser to the Prime Minister Najib Razak to leave the party and continue his studies at Oxford University.

He said he would not leave the party but would continue to expose the systemic corruption.

Syed Saddiq said he had proof of the alleged bribe and was now discussing with his lawyers before taking the matter to MACC.

He named the aide, who had allegedly offered him the bribe, but the name of the person has been withheld by the press.

Social media users have also urged Syed Saddiq to lodge an MACC report.

PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Syed Saddiq was not the first to have received inducements to abandon the opposition camp.

“This is the work of Umno. Especially by this particular aide of Najib’s. He is the one who is always trying to buy over people,” he told The Malaysian Insight last night.

PH president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who heads PKR, said several elected reps in her party were also offered such inducements to leave the party. – October 3, 2017.
