MIC has submitted its list of candidates for the 14th general election to Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak.

Party president Dr S. Subramaniam said it was up to Najib, who is also prime minister, to study the list and submit names to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for screening.

“It’s up to the prime minister to decide whether to forward the names to MACC,” he said after officiating at the National Gynae-Oncology Conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Dr Subramaniam, who is also health minister, said he hoped more women would undergo the pap smear examination to detect cancer.

He said cervical, ovarian and uterine cancers came in second after breast cancer, and posed a high risk to women.

On another matter, Dr Subramaniam said he had yet to receive any report in connection with the deaths of two Royal Malaysian Navy personnel at the Sungai Wangi Unit detention room near Sitiawan in Perak on Friday.

He said the Health director-general would issue a statement when the complete report was obtained.

Police today classified the deaths of Able Seaman Nik Muhammad Baihaqy Nik Mat, 28, and Muhammad Lailal Tuiman Mohd Sukri, 26, as murder.

Three suspects have been remanded to facilitate the probe into the case. – Bernama, October 1, 2017.
