THE head of PAS’ education bureau today paid tribute to the success of Chinese and Tamil schools, but defended a call by her party mate for vernacular schools to be shut down on the grounds that they did not promote national unity.

Dewan Muslimat chief Halimah Ali defended the call made by her colleague Salamiah Md Noor yesterday, saying that the setting up of the vernacular school system was not in line with the federal constitution.

However, she admitted that the system has been a success in raising the education standards of the minority community, adding that it should be emulated by PAS’ own education network, which includes PASTI kindergartens and SRITI Islamic primary schools.

“Even though they are a minority, they are able to develop the system to the point that even Muslims choose these schools. We should attempt to achieve the same level of success of theirs,” she said in her winding up speech at the party’s 65th muktamar (annual congress) today.

She said the women’s wing hoped that the Pakatan Harapan government would take their proposal into consideration, adding that vernacular schools posed a hurdle to promoting national unity.

Yesterday, Salamiah had also urged for Arabic instead of Mandarin to be promoted as the country’s second most spoken language. – June 23, 2019.

  • This lady holds an outmoded view propagated earlier by Malay rightwing fanatics. They would rather the whole education system collapse than see a little bit survive through vernacular schools. The sad truth is that for the betterment of our children's future there HAS to be a critical mass of non-Malay teachers in EVERY school. There is no other way!

  • The whole world is speeding and China will be the next economic power. English and Chinese will be the main media of communication in the near future. Soon, most scientific researches will be available in Chinese too. The Arabic language is good, but it is not the preferred international language! That is the reality and we must adopt to survey. PAS needs to help Malaysia to be competitive. The world does not owe us a living!

  • An etremist and racist view of a typical race that was the result of inbreeding in all aspect. The rationale and reasoning are very clouded and confused myopic vision. It is all more logical that if the vernacular schooling are successful compare to any National Schools or even any Malay schools, then it should be an all out affair to ensure it is across the board which shall promote unity by education. Only the devious purpose to have the bangsa dan agama retention in the national and Malay schools will create the disharmony and place the country into chaos. Do not feel proud of the unknown PAS education of PAST& SRITI, little wonder it is confined and only isolated to PAS held state of Kelantan. It is a nursery teaching and not applicable universally to educate as an education system. It dwells more on religious studies which will spell disaters in Malaysia which will end up everyone MATI !!!. Sad that in Malaysia we still see majority of Malay women especially more in the east coast held in bondage by the deep tribal conservative religious teaching which has denied them the oportunity to widen their maturity of thoughts. Are they the thinker and constructive participant with freedom of expression or they are not suppose to but just merely a slaves to their man fantasies and desires. This is bad as it shall perpetuate and create their own self destructio for being stupid and a misfit society

  • Vernacular schools attract students of all races and is open to students of all races and students of all races are treated equally and fairly. All have a fair and equal chance for advancement and learning. Does this not promote unity? This is unlike madrasahs, sekolah pondok, Mara, UITM and boarding schools which are reserved only for a single race. PAS spews nothing but venomous hatred and racism

The useless PAS Leaders are forgetting that we DONT TEACH TERRORISM N HATRED IN VENECULAR SCHOOLS. • it is successful because it's primary focus is on education (i know, what a concept right?) and not proselytizing religion as what seems to be the direction that sekolah kebangsaan is heading into
