Turkey to close Iraqi border, warns Kurds on oil


Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says border crossings in both directions between Turkey and north Iraq will be closed this week, after the Kurdistan Regional Government today went ahead with an independence referendum in defiance of Ankara. – September 25, 2017.

TURKISH President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that Ankara would close its border with northern Iraq over an independence referendum and threatened the Iraqi Kurds with blocking their key oil exports.

“Entrance-exit will be closed” at the Habur border crossing, Turkey’s sole land border crossing with Iraq, Erdogan said in a speech in Istanbul.
