PKR president Anwar Ibrahim today dismissed Hollywood superstar George Clooney’s warning to Malaysia and its neighbours for intolerance towards the LGBT community.

“Why must Malaysia be dictated by the rest?” he asked, saying that while Malaysia takes into consideration the views and suggestions of the international community, it is up to the country to decide on what is best for its own people.

“You must realise that the Americans decide on their own evolution. The Germans decide for themselves, the Chinese decide for themselves, why must Malaysia be dictated to by the rest?

“There are general humanitarian issues, which concerns human rights or justice… but I think to suggest that America or other foreigners dictate terms, (and) we must abide, I don’t think we can govern like that.”

On Friday, Clooney “warned” to Malaysia and Indonesia against the implementation of anti-LGBT laws like in Brunei.

Speaking on US talk show Ellen, the US actor-producer said Malaysia and Indonesia are among countries considering such laws.

Yesterday, Deputy Foreign Minister Marzuki Yahya said he hopes the actor knew what he was talking about. – May 15, 2019.

  • Is Anwar now advocating intolerance towards LGBTs? Not surprising. We could see that coming. The Islamist wolf is slowly discarding his sheep's clothing.
