PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim who was hospitalised yesterday for unstable blood pressure is expected to be discharged on Friday after a few days of observation, his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said.

The PKR president said his condition had stabilised and he was being monitored by doctors.

“He can leave the hospital on Friday. He is still under observation by doctors,” the Permatang Pauh MP told The Malaysian Insight.

Anwar was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital from Sungai Buloh prison about 2pm yesterday due to fluctuating blood pressure.

He is currently serving a five-year jail sentence for sodomy, a charge the opposition has claimed to be politically motivated.

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said yesterday that Anwar also required intensive physiotherapy for an old shoulder injury.

Fahmi said the jailed leader had urged the people to continue fighting for change.

Anwar also recently reminded PKR and Pakatan Harapan to focus on resolving people’s cost of living concerns, amid discord within the party over whether it should pursue electoral cooperation with PAS.

In a separate statement, HKL director Dr Zaininah Mohd Zain said Anwar was brought to hospital for scheduled check-up.

He was not facing a specific health problem and would only be hospitalised for a few days. – September 20, 2017.
