The Leicester effect

THE sacking of Frank De Boer just four games into the Premier League season is first of all a joke and second, totally out of order. There was talk that he was not the right fit for Palace but how can you know just after four games?

Crystal Palace in their last game against Burnley created 23 chances and only lost because of a sloppy back pass and also their inexplicable desire to not find the net. The players all looked like they were playing for him and yet we have a Twitter happy Chairman pulling the trigger.

I understand that this is the Premier League and there is no room for sentiment, which Claudio Ranieri found out the hard way last season but surely after that performance they should have allowed him time till the visit of Southampton. This short term that managers have is absolutely ridiculous and yet players and fans are the most to blame here.

Slaven Bilic at West Ham should be in the same boat. Eddie Howe should be safe with Bournemouth even though they have made a less than happy start.

I mean, after four games, the fact that we are even considering the survival of managers is ridiculous. Unfortunately, that’s what the premier league has become these days and fans are already baying for blood with increasing numbers.

Frank De Boer was brought in by the Palace hierarchy to create a new style of play there. This will obviously take time and we all know time is one commodity managers don’t have in the premier league. To immediately question  and then sack the new manager is very poor form and shows that owners displayed poor judgement from the start  To bring in a new style of play after a season with Big Sam is always going to take a huge effort and patience.

Bilic has been on borrowed time for awhile and if you speak to West Ham fans here they will testify to this. He is known to be tactically inept and incapable of changing the style or formation when needed. Something we here in Malaysia can relate to very recently at the SEA games football final.

The transfer business there also has to be questioned with some strange signings and quite few well past it players. This is of course down to the board but it leaves the manager hamstrung and in a difficult position. Bilic might be also not helping his cause by also losing the dressing room. Also please don’t get me started on Joe Hart.

Eddie Howe is the “safest” of the lot right now. Primarily because the board trusts him and will allow him time. All that goodwill might be gone by next month if Bournemouth are still in a precarious position and don’t start winning games.

I personally think Bilic will be the next to go with West Ham getting in a new manager early. Crystal Palace have too much quality in the squad right now and will just need a few games to gel and Roy Hodgson will be a short term fix. I personally didn’t think Frank De Boer had the credentials for the premiership but he was appointed and should have been allowed to do his job.

Meanwhile Eddie Howe will have to get his boys to play for him very soon otherwise it will be a shame to see one of the brightest English managers around out of work. – September 16, 2017.
