TEACHERS will get their own special rooms to relax after a tiring day at work, says Education Minister Maszlee Malik.
“Teachers need a space to rest. There should be a place for them to catch their breath.
“Some schools already have these rooms. Based on the ministry’s circular on December 19, every school have to prepare a space solely for teachers,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.
This was in response to a question by Muslimin Yahaya (Sg Besar-PH) on how the government would create a conducive and therapeutic environment for teachers.
As the question was yet to come up in Dewan Rakyat, Maszlee held a press conference to explain the matter.
“The teachers can relax there in between classes or after school.
“This is part of the ministry’s objective to create a warm environment for educators. The private sector is also encouraged to help make this a possibility.”
He said current teachers’ rooms are not good enough as they are work spaces.
“Ensuring the psychological wellbeing of teachers will indirectly motivate them to raise the quality of teaching.”
He said one school in Sarawak has a space in a verandah where teachers can enjoy the cool breeze and local villagers send them coconuts.
“This is a community involvement to brighten and bring cheer to the teachers.” – March 20, 2019
