THE driver who was involved in an accident which hurt four Paralympian cyclists and their head coach has been arrested.

Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Ruslan Abdullah said the driver turned himself in at the Kampung Baru Subang police station at around 3pm and clarified the incident is not a hit-and-run.

“We plan to charge him on Friday. The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act for careless driving,” Ruslan told The Star.

He also said the earlier confusion was caused by a wrong car registration number.

The incident occurred about 10.45am at Km12.6 when the cyclists were cycling from Ijok, Kuala Selangor towards Rawang and they are currently being treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital Emergency Unit.

Meanwhile National Sports Council (MSN) paralympic division director Safrul Sahar said the injured were chief coach Mohd Johari Nayan, two Asean Para Games cyclists Mohd Hairul Hazwan Wahab and Muhammad Khairul Nizam Mohd Ali, and two pilot riders Mohd Nor Rizual Zainal and Muhamad Nur Syafiq Suhaimy.

According to Safrul, the group was training for the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Asean Para Games scheduled from September 17 to 23. – Bernama, September 7, 2017.
