A MUSIC video featuring former prime minister Najib Razak was made at the request of Umno members nostalgic about the previous administration, said its “star”.

“They were sentimental about the good things that we did in the past, and felt it was unfair that we lost the (14th) general election,” he told The Malaysian Insight while on the Cameron Highlands by-election campaign trail today.

Najib did not disclose who the Umno members are, only saying the initiative was theirs and that it is up to them how they want to spread it.

“I think it should already be out by now.”

Parties familiar with the production said the song was recorded in Ampang yesterday and is part of a wider fight-back campaign by the ex-prime minister.

The 4½-minute track, to the tune of The Manhattans’ Kiss and Say Goodbye, features Najib and a group of multiracial youth.

The song was also recorded by top Malay rock group Black Dog Bone, released as Hatiku Luka Lagi.

Just like the versions by The Manhattans and Black Dog Bone, the track by Najib starts off with a monologue, where he says May 9 last year was the saddest day of his life.

“I was removed. All these years, I had been fighting for the people I love. But what could I do when I became the victim of the Pakatan Harapan agenda, which was based on slander and revenge? Now, pray to God to give me the strength to revive Barisan (Nasional),” says Najib in the monologue before the song begins. – January 23, 2019.
