SELANGOR Pakatan Harapan will hold a meeting to discuss the candidate for the Semenyih by-election scheduled for March.

Chairman Amirudin Shari said he will call state PH components for a meeting next week to select the candidate.

“Next week, I will call for a state PH meeting. Hopefully, all parties will reach a consensus on the PH candidate. We hope to retain the seat,” he told reporters after a charity golf tournament organised by Surau Ar-Rayyan in Section 17, Shah Alam, today.

He said he will leave it to Bersatu, whose rep last held the state seat, to find an eligible candidate.

“Any change to the party contesting in Semenyih will be decided by the PH presidential council or top leadership. Hopefully, next week, we will decide on the candidate and which party is contesting.”

On a proposal for election candidates to undergo a health examination, Amirudin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said it should be studied for implementation in the future.

“Four Selangor assemblymen have died, three due to health issues.”

The Semenyih by-election will be held on March 2. Nomination has been fixed for February 17 and early voting, February 26.

The polls were called following the death of assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, 57, on January 11 due to a heart attack.

It will be the fourth by-election in Selangor since the 14th general election. Polls were held in Sg Kandis after assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei died of lymphoma, Balakong (Eddie Ng Tien Chie died in a car crash) and Seri Setia (Professor Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin died of colon cancer). – Bernama, January 20, 2019.
