THE Dewan Rakyat has been informed about the establishment of six new Select Committees, reshuffle in existing committees, and setting up of the Caucus on Reform and Governance.
Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said the announcement was made in a special statement issued by the Parliamentary Select Committee that was circulated among MPs today.
He said the six new committees are on Consideration of Bills; Budget; Defence and Home Affairs; Rights and Gender Equality; States and Federal Relations; and, Major Public Appointments.
Nurul Izzah Anwar (PH-Permatang Pauh) chairs the Consideration of Bills Select Committee, Mustapa Mohamed (PH-Jeli) (Budget) and Mansor Othman (PH-Nibong Tebal) (Defence and Home Affairs).
Nor Azrina Surip (PH-Merbok) heads the Rights and Gender Equality Select Committee, Hassan Abdul Karim (PH-Pasir Gudang) (State and Federal Relations) and William Leong Jee Keen (PH-Selayang) (Major Public Appointments).
Nurul Izzah is also among three new MPs appointed to replace existing members of the Public Accounts Committee.
The Standing Orders Committee, too, saw a reshuffle, involving Sivarasa Rasiah (PH-Sg Buloh), who replaces Dr Azman Ismail (PH-Kuala Kedah), and Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru), replacing Mansor Othman (PH-Nibong Tebal).
Those who remain in the committee are Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh (PH-Sri Gading), Hannah Yeoh (PH-Segambut), Dr Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) and Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim (PAS-Kuala Terengganu).
The House Committee reshuffle involved Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (PH-Kapar), who replaces Nurul Izzah. The existing members are Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (PH-Sepang), Johari Abdul (PH-Sg Petani), Alice Lau Kiong Yieng (PH-Lanang), Azalina Othman Said (BN-Pengerang) and Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PAS-Kubang Kerian).
As for the Privileges Committee, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (PH-Hang Tuah Jaya) replaces Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (PH-Kapar). The members who remain are Dr Md Farid Md Rafik (PH-Tanjung Piai), Sivakumar Varatharaju Naidu (PH-Batu Gajah), Ahmad Hassan (Warisan-Papar), Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera) and Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali (PAS-Kuala Nerus).
The Parliamentary Select Committee has also agreed to the proposed Caucus on Reform and Governance, with Anwar Ibrahim (PH-Port Dickson) appointed as chairman and Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Iskandar Puteri) as vice-chairman. β Bernama, December 4, 2018.
