A PKR Perlis representative has called on supporters from warring factions under Mohamed Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli to end their feud, which he said has caused the party’s image to suffer.
In his speech, Tengku Nazri Tengku Aldin had the floor in thunderous applause when he told the two leaders to stop fighting each other.
He said the party’s image had suffered from a badly managed party elections that was stained by mud-slinging by candidates from both camps.
“But that time is over now, and we must put all that aside to build a new party,” said Tengku Nazri.
He also urged incoming president Anwar Ibrahim to revamp the party’s election system.
“We don’t want an election like that. Our elections had fewer than 200,000 members but it was chaotic. Please send someone to India to see how they can run an election that has millions smoothly,” said Tengku Nazri as all the delegates gave him a standing ovation.
As he ended his speech, Rafizi went over to Azmin and both men raised their arms to huge applause from the floor again.
PKR’s recent elections was both chaotic and fractious, with both sides accusing each other of vote-rigging, phantom voters, corruption, money politics and vote tampering.
PKR was split into two camps, with Rafizi leading one side against defending deputy president Azmin.
Earlier, Tengku Nazri said PKR has come a long way from its formation 20 years ago.
“People shied away from us when they know I’m a PKR member. But today, many are signing up to be members and I’m very proud of that. How sweet this victory is,” he said.
“So, let us not spoil it with an ugly party elections.” – November 17, 2018.
