OUTGOING PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be made chairman of the party’s advisory committee, following a resolution approved at PKR’s congress today.

The resolution was mooted by communications director Fahmi Fadzil at the conclusion of the delegates’ debate on the president’s speech.

Dr Wan Azizah, who has led the party for 20 years, will be vacating the president’s seat for her husband Anwar Ibrahim, who will be officially declared party president tomorrow.

“It is hereby resolved that the central leadership committee will appoint Dr Wan Azizah as chairman of PKR’s Committee of Advisors as a gesture of thanks for her services and to continue to benefit from her leadership,” said Fahmi.

The resolution also recorded the party’s appreciation to Dr Wan Azizah for her sacrifice, guidance and leadership throughout the years.

It also urged the deputy prime minister to continue playing a role in the party and for the party’s leadership to follow the examples set by her.

According to Fahmi, the committee is a new body that had been approved by the delegates.

“As the national congress is the highest decision-making body of the party, the advisory committee is passed.”

Fahmi said the functions, responsibility and composition of the committee will be announced at a later date. – November 17, 2018.
