RM74.6 billion in toll fares collected up to 2017

THE total compensation paid out by the government to concessionaires of tolled highways from 1990 to last year topped RM5.109 billion, while the total in toll fares collected from the time they began operating till 2017 was RM74.654 billion, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Works Minister Baru Bian said there were 29 tolled highways still in operation throughout the country.

He said the average expenditure to operate and maintain these highways was RM1.7 billion annually.

He said two of the concessions were scheduled to end in 10 years, 16 in 11 to 20 years and 11 have more than 20 years.

He was replying to a question from Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (PH-Johor Baru).
