THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will seize over 10 million tonnes of bauxite stockpiled in Pahang to facilitate its investigations into illegal bauxite mining in the state.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Azam Baki said the seizure was to prevent the bauxite from being taken out of the stockpile area for business or other purposes.
“The action to seize the bauxite will involve all bauxite stockpile on government-owned and private-owned land in the state,” he said in a statement here today.
Meantime, Azam said the MACC had also discussed with the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry and proposed for the ministry to carry out a review on the issuance of Approval Permit (AP) to bauxite mine operators and to revoke all APs issued earlier.
He said the MACC would also monitor (to prevent) any bauxite export at Kuantan Port. – Bernama, August 12, 2017.
