THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) has opened an investigation into allegations that the Perikatan Nasional election campaign last year was funded by money from gaming companies.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation senior director Hishamuddin Hashim said the probe will be thorough.

“The investigation will cover various aspects, including identifying and investigating the background of the companies mentioned in the report,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

“This investigation follows an individual’s complaint to the MACC on May 30.”

The complainant also submitted several documents backing his claims, he said.

Hishamuddin was referring to Mohd Rushdan Mohd Yusof, 52, who filed a report to MACC last month.

Rushdan said the evidence was from a reliable source and would be supported by other documents.

The report came after Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Othman Said said MACC investigators had found no evidence that PN had accepted gaming funds for its GE15 campaign,

On December 5 last year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had hinted that some parties were partially funded by gaming companies. – June 7, 2023.
