DAP and PKR will attend the Umno general assembly for the first time since becoming partners the unity government last year.

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said leaders of all parties in the government will attend the general assembly which will be held June 7-10.

This includes Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim who is PKR president.

“This year is a bit different because the prime minister will be attending our assembly, together with the 19 other heads of parties under the unity government,” said Asyraf in a press conference today.

He also denied that Umno Youth did not extend invitations to their counterparts in the other parties in the unity government.

“Usually, the respective wings will follow the lead of the main branch. If Umno itself is inviting the unity government’s parties, they will follow suit.”

Umno, MCA and MIC are now part of the unity government. The BN component parties had unanimously agreed to back Anwar as prime minister after no single party was able to form a government after the last general election. – June 2, 2023.
