FORMER Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng has urged Penang folk to lodge police reports against Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for creating public disaffection and trying to cause enmity between the people of Kedah and Penang.

In a statement today, the Bagan MP said by provoking and questioning Penang’s sovereignty and right to exist as a state, Sanusi was a public danger to the peace and security of the nation.

“Police reports should be lodged by 1.8 million Penang folk to press for action against Sanusi to protect Penang and prevent “political interlopers” from invading our state to ensure that we can continue our lives peacefully and enjoy prosperity,” said the DAP chairman.

He said that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Ramkarpal Singh had both refuted Sanusi’s remarks that Penang belonged to Kedah.

They had accused the PAS leader of failing to understand the law to the extent of disrespecting and even denigrating the federal constitution, said Lim.

“Anwar added that even the Sultan of Kedah did not dispute Penang’s right to exist as a state when the Sultan of Kedah had consented to the federal constitution which recognises Penang as one of the 13 sovereign states in Malaysia.

“This is not the first time that Sanusi is making such an outrageous and false claim against Penang,” Lim stressed.

Sanusi had said that he doubted the sovereignty of Penang and the right of Penang to exist as Penang should be under Kedah.

Following his provocative comments, the Penang state assembly passed a unanimous motion, supported by a lone Penang PAS assemblyman, condemning Sanusi for doubting Penang’s sovereignty.

Anwar also hit out at Sanusi, saying that he should understand the federal constitution.

“When a leader speaks, he has to understand the constitution, he has to understand what is an agreement,” Anwar said in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Lim said that Sanusi was clearly intent on leveraging on a false claim to gain extra political mileage in the coming state elections.

He also urged Penang PAS to state its stand on the issue.

“Gaining political mileage is an irresponsible and reckless move when such baseless and non-existent claims can create public disaffection amongst the people and appears to be trying to cause public enmity amongst the peoples of Kedah and Penang.

“Even though all the facts and law have underlined that Sanusi is wrong, he refuses to recant and repent his wrongs.”

“Penang PAS should state their stand on this. Should they fail to do so, then PAS should not contest in the coming state elections if they cannot fully represent the interests of Penang folk as well as defend, protect and preserve the Federal Constitution,” he said. – May 31 2023.
