FORMER Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd group CEO Rohana Rozhan has returned the US$10 million (RM44.2 million) 1Malaysia Development Bhd-linked cash and assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Utusan Malaysia reported today.

Quoting a source, the Malay-language daily said the former girlfriend of disgraced Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner had surrendered the cash and assets to Putrajaya last year.

The report said Rohana action has ended the investigation on her.

“She has returned all the money and assets (involved) to MACC, which then handed them to the government.

“With that, MACC’s investigation concerning Rohana has been completed. At this point, there is nothing more needed from her,” the source was quoted as saying in the report.

In the trial of 1MDB in the United States last February, Leissner said he gave Rohana US$10 million from the funds he reportedly misappropriated from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, and she bought a house (worth US$7 million) in London.

Leissner testified that he bought the house because Rohana threatened to expose his involvement in the 1MDB affair.

In March last year, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said Rohana was being probed under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 and that Rohana’s London property and other assets were frozen.  – March 24, 2023.
