Uganda says will not renew UN rights office mandate

UGANDA said today it will not renew the mandate for the UN’s rights office, a move criticised by the opposition in a country where freedoms are regularly threatened.

“Our human rights record over the years has tremendously improved under our able leadership of President (Yoweri) Museveni,” state minister for foreign affairs Henry Okello Oryem told AFP.
